Come join us!

The Friends is an energetic group of volunteers with a unifying interest: We all love books! The Friends offers a variety of opportunities and provides a lot of flexibility, allowing you to fit volunteering into your schedule.

Volunteer Opportunities

Bookstore

No experience necessary - we will train you!

The Bookstore is an ongoing fundraising project. It not only raises money for library programs, activities, and events but also brings together people of all ages with like-minded volunteers and bookstore customers. Most of our customers come in regularly to check out our offerings and enjoy sharing book recommendations with our volunteers. Sometimes the store provides an opportunity for a volunteer to reconnect with old friends and former neighbors.

The store is open four days a week - Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. We schedule two volunteers to work together for two-hour shifts and use the SignUpGenius website, which allows you to manage the days and times you volunteer. You can easily tailor your schedule around vacations and other commitments.

Social Media

If you are someone who prefers to help promote the Friends by volunteering from home, we would love to have you work with us to increase our social media presence.

Publicity

Do you like to write? Do you have marketing ideas? We have many opportunities to create copy for promotional materials, such as flyers, announcements, newspaper articles, fundraising projects, and more. We always welcome new ideas for marketing the Friends and our programs.

Book Sorting

Every Thursday, from 2-4 p.m., we sort book donations in the back room of the library. This is a “drop in” activity and gives volunteers a chance to socialize as they sort the books into categories and shelve them in the store. Many volunteers who sort and shelve books on Thursdays also sign up to work in the store, but these are separate activities.

Graphic Design

Graphic design is another area where volunteers with graphic design skills can do most of their work from home.  The Friends needs designs for posters promoting  book sales and special events.  Informational signs for the bookstore require frequent updating.  We are also constantly looking for new ways to promote the bookstore and the work of the Friends -- through flyers, bookmarks, discount coupons, and more.  We welcome your ideas and creativity.

Fundraising

If you are unable to make a long-term commitment but still want to work with the Friends, we have volunteer opportunities in fundraising that may be right for you. For example, consider helping with our annual donor drive. Each fall, the Friends mails a town-wide letter soliciting donations. The funds raised from this campaign provide about half of our revenue. Work begins for the donor drive team in the summer and ends in October.  This project follows a step-by-step manual, enabling new volunteers to jump right in!

Another way that you can contribute to our fundraising efforts on a project-specific basis is to help us develop corporate sponsors for our very popular annual summer concert series. The Friends targets potential donors in the local business community to become sponsors for this wonderful community event.
